From Odoo 8 to Odoo 13

Which version is worthwhile? The Odoo Fork!

 Stand January 2020

We have ported our modules for Odoo 12 and start with ownERP 12 for new projects.

Anyone who has been involved in software development for some time, especially with Odoo, knows that it is worth waiting.

This is all the more true with Open Source. Because what Odoo calls a release actually means "Now you can test it!"

But our Fork MyOdoo is constantly being developed, improved and expanded.

Our 12-month rule

Our experience in switching between OpenERP 7 and Odoo 8 has taught us: Patience!

That's why we check the commits for the versions every month. Commits are changes in the system, whether due to bug fixes or enhancements.

Like many developers, we have skipped Odoo 9 and 11 and are about to start the port to Odoo 12. Since Python 2.7 support is expiring, you should use at least Odoo 11 or higher.

A benchmark for the respective version should be the community modules of the OCA (OCA Module).

Technically, all versions are quite identical. There are only minor differences in the JavaScript libraries, which are only relevant for developers. In version 10, the new API has been used completely. Also we can now use other view elements, which gives us more freedom of action. With Odoo 11 we switched to Python 3.5 or higher. From 13 on there is a significant speed advantage (~30 %). However, there are not yet so many modules for v13 from the OCA.

Enterprise Version now again by us

We were "official Odoo Partner" until 2015. Until 2020 we paused this, because there was little added value for us. From v12/v13 on the demand for Odoo Enterprise has increased as there are many new modules and added values.

But we are a  member of the OCA  nd also provide many of our modules as  open source.
